Upma is one of the most common breakfast in South India which is very easy and quick recipe. This is prepared by rava and some veggies, which is very nutritious and tasty.
Ingredients
- Sooji or Bombay rava or Semillon - 1 Cup
- Oil
- Water
- Carrot(Optional)
- Potato(Optional)
- Tomato(Optional)
- Onion - 1
- Ginger
- Green Chilles-2
- Mustard seeds
- Chana dal
- Urad dal
- Salt
- Curry Leaves
- Coriander
- Cashew
Directions
- First chop the onions , green chilies into small pieces and cut the ginger into very small pieces or mash the ginger, keep them a side.
- Take a skillet, add oil in it and warm it for 1 min.
- Add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves and cashew in it, stir it until it mustard seeds begin to pop.
- Then add green chilies and onions in it and stir simultaniously.
- Cook until onion becomes transulent.
- If you want to add veggies you can it now it is totally optional. Add them and cook them until 10 to 15 mins.
- Here we are not using any veggies so add 2 cups of water and add salt as per requirement.
- Now boil the water for 5 mins and add rava by small small quantities, at the time of pouring rava in water we need to stir water otherwise it forms lumps. Stiring will helps to prevents the lumps formation.
- Now mix the rava until the absorbs water.
- Cover the skillet with plate and remain it in low flame for 2 to 3 mins.
- Turn off the stove and garnish coriander.
- Serve it as morning breakfast.
