Bisi bele bhat is a traditional dish from Karnataka made with rice, lentils, vegetables and coconut. It is similar to a khichdi.
Ingredients
- Coriander seeds - 1/4 cup
- Chana dal - ¼ cup
- Urad dal - 2 tbsp
- Cumin - 2 tbsp
- Methi - ½ tsp
- Sesame - 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 2 tbsp
- Pepper - ½ tsp
- Cardamom
- Cinnamon
- Cloves - 5
- Oil
- Dried red chillies
- Curry leaves
- Dry coconut
- Turmeric
- Hing
- Toor dal - 1/2 cup
- Rice - 1/2 cup
- Water
- Ghee - 2 tbsp
- Peanuts 2 tbsp
- Onion - 1
- Carrot - 1
- Potato - 1
- Peas - 2 tbsp
- Beans - 5
- Tomato (chopped)
- Tamarind extract - ½ cup
- Bisi bele bath masala - 3 tbsp
- Chilli powder - 1 tbsp
- Salt
- Cashew
Directions
- First, in a skillet take ¼ cup coriander seeds, ¼ cup chana dal, 2 tbsp urad dal, 2 tbsp cumin, ½ tsp methi, 2 tbsp sesame and 2 tbsp mustard seeds.
- Boil on low fire until the flavors turn sweet-smelling.additionally add ½ tsp pepper, 6 units cardamom, 2 inch cinnamon, 5 cloves. Boil on low fire without consuming the flavors.
- Move to the plate to cool totally. In the dish heat 1 tsp oil and add 20 dried red stew, scarcely any curry leaves and ¼ cup dry coconut.
- Boil on low fire until the bean stew turns fresh. Move to a similar plate and permit to cool totally.
- when the simmered flavors are cooled totally, move to the blender container. Add ½ tsp turmeric and ¼ tsp hing.
- Mix to a fine powder and natively constructed bisi bele bhaat masala powder is prepared.
- Right off the bat, in a strain cooker take ½ cup toor dal, ½ cup rice, ¼ tsp turmeric and 1 tsp oil.
- Add 3 cup of water and tension cook for 5 whistles. keep to the side.
- In an enormous kadai heat 2 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp ghee and splutter 1 tsp mustard, 2 dried red bean stew, squeeze hing, 2 tbsp peanuts and barely any curry leaves.
- Add ½ onion and saute somewhat. Presently add 1 carrot, 1 potato, 2 tbsp peas, 5 beans, ½ tomato, ½ tsp turmeric and ½ tsp salt.
- Saute for 2 minutes, or until the vegetables relax marginally.
- Presently add 3 cup water and bubble for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked well.
- Further, add ½ cup tamarind concentrate and bubble well.
- Add 3 tbsp bisi bele shower masala, 1 tsp stew powder and 1 tsp salt.
- Saute until the flavors are all around cooked. Add cooked rice-dal, 1 tsp salt, 2 cup water and blend well changing the consistency.
- Cover and stew for 10 minutes, or until the flavors are consumed well. Presently pour the seared cashew and blend well. I have seared 2 tbsp cashew in 2 tsp ghee until the cashew turn crunchy.
